Wolfram Alpha. A computation tool. Imagine if I'd had this as a child, rather than having to program a computer to do my math homework. (A calculator wasn't allowed, but I was never forbidden from using the computer to do it.)

I won a lab coat & I'm deliriously happy. )
I think I finally understand why some people participate in so many cons. When one finds one (or ten) that's a good fit, the possibilities feel endless.

Tomorrow, I check out of the hotel and back in to my usual life.

Planning for 2010 is in less than two weeks!

I'm glad I got a few hours of sleep, and I'm even more glad that I had the foresight to leave my clothes in an easy to reach spot.

The 2:00 - 6:00 ops staffer didn't arrive and couldn't be reached. )

I know. It's not even midnight. That said, I'm tired and want to be certain I can wake up if anyone from Ops calls with a problem starting at 2:00 AM.

What other wonderful stuff have I done? )

Time for sleep, but not before I figure out what the first thing is that I want to do tomorrow morning.

I just got back from my first presentation - the launch of the Free Space game for the weekend.

Assuming I can (a) get a network connection and (b) think of some good ideas, I look forward to participating. Participating in a game with an actual real world outcome is not something I've done before.

This presentation ended early, so I headed to the Consuite to grab a bite to eat. Sandwich & hard boiled egg(!) in hand (actually, on a plate which was held by my hand), I found a prime seat to watch LN2 ice cream being made. They finished just as I finished eating, so I grabbed some before heading out to walk around.

While I was over at the flyer area, someone invited me to a room party later, and gave me a ribbon to advertise it. I now have a conundrum. Do I wear the ribbon to advertise the party, knowing that I will most likely not attend the room party? Or, does wearing the ribbon imply that I have or will have the experience in question, such that wearing it is basically a lie?

Registration opened, so it seems fair to say that Penguicon has begun.

Registration opens at 4:00 PM, but I was able to get my badge early. Most of the day I've spent "setting up" Ops, which I've either done completely incorrectly, or it really is not all that labor intensive. All I really did was take the boxes out of storage, move them to the Ops area, and take some things out of the boxes.

Then what )

We can't make the hotel our own until noon, so until then, my time is my own. I have an errand I want to run, so having some time suits me just fine. I should probably also take this opportunity to eat more than just a granola bar for breakfast as well. I should also find a way to use up some energy I'm getting from having to much anticipation excitement.

Thus begins my keeping track of things I want to look up later: Harvard Business Review, for article regarding generational differences & impact on management style. (As per discussion regarding Linux & enterprise w/ nifty guest last night.)

Weeks of no updates, and what catches my eye and wants to make me share? Katamari for PS3!

Of course, I don't have a PS3. It seemed more sensible to wait for the price to go down to something more reasonable. But, at the rate the price is dropping, I may have to shift my stance and hope that Sony releases a PS4. Then I might be able to find a used PS3 for something vaguely resembling a reasonable price.

This week has been interesting, but I'm more behind than ever. I've jumped into my new role at work and I'm hopeful that I'll be able to adapt and make some positive changes. On the downside, I've spent a lot more time at work, each night coming home, having dinner, and going to bed. I'm surprised that I had enough time to go to pottery class on Wednesday. (It was likely made possible by the fact that I had to leave early to go to the dentist. (On the bright side, the tooth I had to get fixed last spring in Virginia now has a crown!)

So, in order to stop being so scatter brained and try to get some stuff done that needs to be done - not create more happy pie charts showing B. how much of our expenses for the past year are utilities vs. groceries vs. any of the other categories they are logged under - I'm creating a list, to be updated as it is completed.

On the docket )

Stolen from justsonya. I've reduced the modifications to what seems to be more appropriate to me.

The first fifteen people to respond to this post will get something made by me! My choice. For you.

This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:
- I make no guarantees that you will like what I make!
- It'll be done this year.

The month of art turned out to be no so much a month as a week, seeing as my attention turned elsewhere as soon as Ding started having troubles. All the same, I did want to publish a few more photos of projects that I did finish recently, though many weren't in the actual intended month of art.
Without further ado )
And thus wraps up the last of my art for 2008.

The bad thing about setting the alarm to wake up at 2:00 AM to check on the progress of the weekend migration (work) is that it's difficult to get back to sleep.

On my mind )

In other news, I can't get It's Raining Men to stop playing in my mind.

I should get some sleep now so that I can be awake to visit Ding, and hopefully also have enough energy to think about work.
